What is a traineeship?

The traineeship is part of the Law Society of Scotland's Professional Education and Training (PEAT) programme:

The traineeship sees you complete your training within the workplace working under the supervision of a Scottish-qualified solicitor. During your two years as a trainee you will be required to fulfill certain obligations in order to demonstrate you are competent and ready to qualify as a solicitor.

Where do trainees work?

Traineeships are available throughout Scotland. Here's a diagram to give you an idea of the spread of opportunities for trainees.

How much are trainee solicitors paid?

Trainee salaries differ significantly and are set by the individual employer. However there is a minimum requirement set by the Law Society, as well as a recommended rate. Find out more
