There are various mandatory regulatory processes and requirements that trainees must be aware of before and during their traineeship.
The traineeship is part of the Law Society of Scotland's Professional Education and Training (PEAT) programme:
- PEAT 1: Diploma in Professional Legal Practice
- PEAT 2: Traineeship
The traineeship sees you complete your training within the workplace working under the supervision of a Scottish-qualified solicitor. During your two years as a trainee you will be required to fulfill certain obligations in order to demonstrate you are competent and ready to qualify as a solicitor.
Traineeships are available throughout Scotland. Here's a diagram to give you an idea of the spread of opportunities for trainees.
How much are trainee solicitors paid?
Trainee salaries differ significantly and are set by the individual employer. However there is a minimum requirement set by the Law Society, as well as a recommended rate. Find out more.
