The President of the Law Society of Scotland alongside special invited guests will be coming to meet with you. Crowd

Alison Atack, along with Council member, Paul Matthews and Law Society colleague Katie McKenna are coming to see you together with Jennifer Henderson, Keeper of the Registers of Scotland and Sarah Deas from Scottish Enterprise.

This meeting will provide an opportunity to find out more about the Law Society’s key areas of work and will cover the legal services review, Lawscot Wellbeing, legal aid, and the profile of the profession research amongst other topics. Most importantly, there will be the opportunity for you to ask questions or discuss issues affecting you and your business or organisation during the Q&A session.

We understand that the selected locations for this year’s tour may not be near to you and in turn, this meeting will be available by remote access. For more information or if you have any issues you wish to raise in advance of the meeting please email [email protected].

Katie McKenna, Head of High Street Member Engagement
Katie joined the Law Society of Scotland as the Head of High Street Member Engagement in January 2018. Her role involves working with, supporting and representing sole practitioners and high street firms across Scotland. Katie is also the main point of contact and support for the local faculty network.  Katie is also the project lead for Lawscot Wellbeing. Katie is a solicitor who trained at McClure Naismith in 2008. Following her traineeship, she spent some time working in-house and went on to gain years of experience working with high street firms and local faculties during her time with the referral networks operated by Harper Macleod LLP and Digby Brown LLP.  
Katie is a council member of the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow, enjoys yoga and is currently studying Spanish at the University of Strathclyde.

If you require a Law Society Smartcard or need to renew your existing card, Katie McKenna and Beth Anderson will be offering that service on the day. There is more information about using your smartcard on the Society’s website. Please email [email protected] to set up a Smartcard appointment during the visit or if you have any further queries.

    Alison Atack

    Alison Atack joined the Society’s Council in May 1998 representing solicitors in Glasgow and Strathkelvin. She is a member of the Regulatory Committee and is the former convener of the Client Protection Sub-Committee.

    She retired as a partner at Lindsays in March 2018 and has detailed knowledge and experience of private client work, including succession planning and agricultural property.

    Sarah Deas, Scottish Enterprise
    Jennifer Henderson

    Jennifer is the Chief Executive and Keeper of the Registers of Scotland, which is the non-ministerial government department responsible for compiling and maintaining 20 public registers in Scotland. These relate to land, property, and other legal documents.

    Jennifer has been with the UK Civil Service since 1994.  Prior to her current role she was a Deputy Director at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, developing the department’s business plan and previously supporting the initial phase of the Building Safety Programme established in response to the fire at Grenfell Tower.

    Prior to that, she was a member of the executive team at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl - an Executive Agency of the UK Ministry of Defence), as Operations Director and then as Transformation Director, ensuring that innovative science and technology contributes to the defence and security of the UK.

    In parallel with these roles she was also a Non-Executive director on the Board of Ploughshare Innovations Ltd.  Jennifer is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and is a Chartered Physicist.
