Sign up for our next training day on 13 February 2019, which is mandatory for everyone wanting to mentor on our career development or student:trainee schemes. This counts towards 6 hours of CPD.
Mentoring is an amazing way to help others in the profession realise their potential and develop their careers. Anyone can be a mentor, regardless of the stage you're at. If you're interested in what it entails, we'd love to hear from you.
In 2013, we launched our career mentoring scheme for students, trainees and solicitors as part of our professional support for solicitors. In 2017 we launched a pilot programme for law students, where they can be mentored by trainees. We're now looking to grow both of these schemes so even more people can reap the benefits that participating can bring.
The aim of the scheme is to help students, trainees and solicitors manage and develop their careers. The main objectives are:
- Support mentees with goal-setting and career management
- Encourage mentees to take responsibility for their own skills and career development
- Enhance the experience by accessing experienced solicitors’ knowledge and expertise
- Provide information about different options and career paths
- Enabling mentors to “give back” to the legal profession and be role models for the next generation
No experience in mentoring? No problem. Before becoming an active mentor in either of our schemes you'll need to undertake a full day of training hosted at our offices by Quiver Management, a European Quality Awarded coaching and mentoring organisation.

The training workshop is interactive and practical; mixing theory with conversation exercises. The participants will also receive a course workbook with descriptions of the models and techniques shared during the workshop as well as information about the Law Society’s career mentoring programme.
