New Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT), Additional Dwelling Supplement (ADS) rates - and thresholds came into force in January this year, affecting a large number of both residential and non-residential transactions. This is the latest update in an area that has undergone significant changes  in recent years, presenting solicitors and their clients with new and thorny issues.

    Isobel advises on the LBTT/SDLT/LTT, VAT and capital allowances aspects of real estate purchases, sales and leases, as well as the tax implications of transactions involving properties held in corporate wrappers and structuring of property funds. Her experience includes advising on Student Accommodation and Buy to Rent/PRS structures, property joint ventures, the Construction Industry Scheme and the new VAT reverse charge for building and construction service. Isobel has a particular expertise in LBTT and was closely involved in working with the Scottish Government in relation to the introduction of the Land and Buildings Transaction Tax in April 2015 and the Additional Dwelling Supplement in April 2016.

    Isobel is a top ranked individual in Chambers and Partners and a leading individual in Legal 500 for Corporate Tax.     Speaker

    Caroline is an experienced corporate tax solicitor and chartered tax adviser. Caroline has over 20 years of experience in providing corporate tax and share schemes legal support on corporate, commercial and real estate transactions and tax advice to clients including tax structuring, tax clearances and tax enquiry and investigation support. Caroline is an active member of DWF's partner-led diversity and inclusion leadership group with a focus on gender issues and, also, sits on the DWF's CSR Leadership group. Caroline is an active member of: the Law Society of Scotland's Tax Law and Policy sub-committee and LBTT working group; CIOT Employment taxes committee; ICAS Employment taxes working group and the Women in Tax Scotland committee.  Caroline sits on the advisory board of Business in the Community Scotland. Caroline previously led the teaching on the postgraduate diploma in legal practice and trainee solicitor CPD at the University of Edinburgh. Caroline is a mum of two and enjoys yoga, walking and reading (if she can stay awake long enough…!).
