This one-day course will enhance participants’ confidence, ability to be assertive and communicate with authority and impact in a professional capacity.
The purpose of assertiveness is to achieve and maintain effective communications within personal, professional and structural contexts.
This course will explore different behavioural characteristics and their impact on communications and professional relationships.
Contexts within which assertiveness can become an ‘issue’ will be examined, techniques and strategies for addressing these will be tested and critiqued.
All learning will be underpinned by explanatory insights into behavioural linguistics and the social use of language.
- How to recognise non-assertive behaviours in themselves and others
- Strategies and techniques to respond to and manage non-assertive behaviours
- Theoretical insights which underpin approaches to managing effective professional communications
- Techniques for self-critique to support continuous development
Kevin Rowswell is an educationalist with particular interests in professional and management education and applied professional communications.
Kevin’s career has embraced public, private and not-for-profit sectors including government administration and policy development at local and national level. His principal areas of expertise include: Applied professional communications, policy development and stakeholder engagement, team development and capacity building, learning design and blended learning methods.
Kevin studied, and has taught, at both Manchester and Salford universities. He is also a Fellow of The Chartered Management Institute, The British Institute for Learning and Development and The Royal Society for Arts and Sciences.
