Law Society Vice President, Amanda Millar, will be visiting Aberdeen on 14 October joined by Law Society colleague Katie McKenna.

This meeting will provide an opportunity to find out more about the Law Society’s key areas of work and will cover the legal services review, Lawscot Wellbeing, our new accreditation for legal technologist, our response to the Scottish Government consultation on legal aid reform, and the profile of the profession research amongst other topics.

Most importantly, there will be the opportunity for you to ask questions or discuss issues affecting you and your business or organisation during the Q&A session. Should you have any issues you wish to raise in advance of the meeting please email [email protected].

Amanda Millar, Vice-President 2019/20

Amanda is a partner with McCash & Hunter LLP in Perth, specialising in all aspects of mental health and adults with incapacity law. Within the Law Society of Scotland she is the convener of the Professional Practice (Rules and Waivers) Sub-Committee, an observer member of the Mental Health and Disability Sub-Committee and a member of the Board.

Amanda was the first solicitor in Scotland accredited by the Law Society of Scotland in the fields of both Mental Health Law and Incapacity and Mental Disability Law and she remains the only solicitor so accredited outwith Glasgow and Edinburgh. She is a member of the expert advisory group of the Centre for Mental Health and Incapacity Law Rights and Policy at Edinburgh Napier University. Amanda was the first non-executive Chair of Changing the Chemistry (SCIO) and stepped down from that post in September 2019. Their vision statement is “Changing the Chemistry in the boardroom so people and boards embrace diversity of thought."

Katie McKenna, Head of High Street Member Engagement
Katie joined the Law Society of Scotland as the Head of High Street Member Engagement in January 2018. Her role involves working with, supporting and representing sole practitioners and high street firms across Scotland. Katie is also the main point of contact and support for the local faculty network.  Katie is also the project lead for Lawscot Wellbeing. Katie is a solicitor who trained at McClure Naismith in 2008. Following her traineeship, she spent some time working in-house and went on to gain years of experience working with high street firms and local faculties during her time with the referral networks operated by Harper Macleod LLP and Digby Brown LLP. Katie is a council member of the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow, enjoys yoga and is currently studying Spanish at the University of Strathclyde.
