We are encouraging everyone working in Scotland’s legal sector to take part in a new survey on mental health.

Our survey is the first of its kind to carried out on a sector-wide basis in Scotland and is being run in partnership with See Me, the national programme to end mental health stigma and discrimination.

The survey is open to solicitors, trainees, accredited paralegals, paralegals, legal technicians, and all support staff working at law firms and in-house legal teams. It will cover attitudes towards mental health as well personal experiences, asking those working within the legal sector about mental health policies and training in their workplace, if their organisation has a good understanding of the importance of staff mental health and wellbeing and if they would discuss mental health issues at work without fearing an adverse reaction from their manager or colleagues.

The survey is confidential and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The survey closes on 30 June 2019 and the responses will be analysed by See Me.

Any questions about the survey?

Everyone who is part of the legal sector, including paralegals, trainees, solicitors in private practice and in-house, and support team colleagues, is invited to complete the survey.

You are required to answer every question. Don’t worry if you can’t or don’t want to answer a question as there is an answer option for ‘prefer not to answer’ that you can select.

You will not be asked to give your name or identify your firm or organisation. Only See Me will be able to see individual responses and the Society will see anonymous results from the survey.

Anonymous results will be used to guide the Society's work on wellbeing. It will also allow us to understand more about mental health issues within the legal sector as a whole.  The results may also be used by See Me for benchmarking in Scotland.

We will publish a report on the findings.
