Longest-serving member welcomed as platinum year opens

The Law Society of Scotland’s longest serving member, Mrs Anne Meikle, was the special guest at a reception to mark the start of the Society’s platinum year.

Anne Meikle was admitted a Scottish solicitor on 10 June 1949. She left school at 17 and served an apprenticeship with J & J Ogilvie, Dundee, while taking the BL degree at the then Dundee buildings of St Andrews University. After qualifying she practised in Dundee before moving to local government posts with Edinburgh Corporation, Lothian Regional Council and Midlothian District Council, with a break along the way to raise a family.

She was presented with a quaich by President Alison Atack, who also unveiled the Society’s new platinum timeline, charting significant events in its 70 year history.
