Details of the Scottish Paralegal Association’s autumn conference in Dundee are revealed here, along with plans for other CPD events, formal and less formal

Now that the dust has settled after our very successful annual conference in Glasgow held in April, and having listened to feedback from you, we are delighted to confirm that we are holding a conference in Dundee on 2 October 2018.

As with the Glasgow conference, there will be a wide variety of practice areas covered including conveyancing, family law, debt recovery and private client. There will be seven presentations in each of these areas. Tickets will be going on sale soon, and an email will be issued to members to confirm, but meantime please put the date in your diary. Full details of the conference will also be published on our website so please be sure to check. We hope as many members as possible will be able to attend what should be a very enjoyable and informative event.

The Cyber Academy at Napier University recently hosted a seminar for us, “Open Source Intelligence for Paralegals,” and again, due to its success, another seminar, “An Introduction to Digital Evidence” is being arranged and an email invitation will be issued to all members once the date is confirmed. It is hoped that these are just the start of regular events with the Cyber Academy.

Under discussion

Discussions are underway with various CPD providers, and a programme of events is being prepared for short CPD sessions to be held at various locations. It is hoped that these will be free to members and if there is anything that you would particularly like us to cover, please let us know. Topics being mooted at present are buying/selling a property with solar panels, cyber crime and family law matters.

It is hoped that we can incorporate short CPD tutorials along with the “meet and greet” sessions in various parts of the country. The events held last year were well attended and everyone enjoyed them. These events are very informal and are a great way to meet and catch up with fellow paralegals. The committee would like to hear from you if you think there would be interest in one of these events in your area. The SPA regularly has a stand at various conferences throughout the year, so if you are attending any of these please come along to our stand and say hello.

Seen our website recently?

Our new website has now been launched and is a vast improvement on what was previously in place. We hope that you agree and that you will find the website more user friendly than before. Please be sure to check it out. Any suggestions for anything you would like to see featured on the website are welcome, as this is an ongoing project and the website will be updated regularly. Remember that as well as the website we are also on Facebook and Twitter. Watch out for our dedicated members’ area coming soon.

As always, we would love to hear from members with any suggestions for events or CPD you would like us to organise for you. Contact us at [email protected] or [email protected]
