Collected news of new appointments and practice changes

ANDERSON STRATHERN, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Haddington, has announced a series of promotions in its private client team. Martin Campbell has been promoted to partner, and Susie Stewart and Sophia Li both become senior associates. Alastair Johnstone advances to associate, while Sarah Thurston becomes a senior solicitor.

DWF SCOTLAND, Edinburgh and Glasgow, has made three senior promotions across its Scotland-based commercial and insurance teams. Senior associates Joanna Hamilton and Paul Mason (both real estate), become partners, and corporate associate Tom Maxwell has been made a director, a partner-level equivalent role.

Patrick Fordyce, formerly partner in or consultant with various firms in Dumbarton or Alexandria, more recently in business on his own account in Glasgow, has ceased to practise with effect from 31 October 2016.

HARPER MACLEOD, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Lerwick, has promoted associates Stephen Chan (corporate) and Alexis Miller (family) to partner.

HBJ GATELEY, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and elsewhere, announces that its Scottish offices are to end their association with GATELEY PLC and merge with international firm ADDLESHAW GODDARD, with completion by 1 June 2017. The enlarged firm will have more than 230 partners and 1,100 lawyers, ranking 15th by fee income in the UK. HBJ chairman Malcolm McPherson will join the Addleshaw Goddard board, which is led by senior partner Charles Penney and managing partner John Joyce.

LEDINGHAM CHALMERS LLP, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Stirling, announces that it has appointed Lesley McKnight as a senior solicitor in private client, and Emma Somerville as a solicitor in family law, both in its Aberdeen office.

MACLAY MURRAY & SPENS LLP announces that it has appointed James McMillan as an associate in its Fraud, Investigations and Business Crimes team. He joins from MACROBERTS.

MURRAY BEITH MURRAY, Edinburgh, announces that it has appointed Fiona Petrie as finance director. She joins from SHEPHERD & WEDDERBURN.

PAGAN OSBORNE, Cupar, St Andrews, Edinburgh and Anstruther, announces that it has appointed Jennifer Broatch, previously with LINDSAYS, as an associate in its family law team, Graham Sutherland, previously in practice in Orkney, as a rural law specialist, and Emma Horne, most recently with HBJ GATELEY, as an associate in private client.

THOMPSONS, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, announces that Peter O’Donnell and David Martyn, who jointly manage the firm’s employment law team, have been promoted to partner, and that Lindsay Bruce, Craig Smillie and Greg McEwen have been promoted to associate.
