In a new column for paralegals (and their employers), the Scottish Paralegal Association highlights its first annual Paralegal of the Year Award

Welcome to what we hope will become a regular article for paralegals. So, first and foremost, please get in touch with us if there is a topic you would like covered or if something exciting is happening in your career.

2015 has been a busy year for the SPA committee and 2016 looks to be even busier. There is of course our first annual Paralegal of the Year Award, open to all members of the SPA. As our profession grows, so does the recognition of the hard work paralegals do within their employment across Scotland. Entries are arriving thick and fast, so if you haven’t entered yet, please do so.

Remember the closing date is 24 December 2015. Solicitors, if your paralegal is too shy to blow their
own trumpet, contact us for an application form and let everyone know what a great job they do. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges, with members from the Law Society of Scotland, Millar & Bryce, CLT, the University of Strathclyde and our own SPA President, Jacqueline Burns, and will be announced at our 2016 Conference.

I hope you have all marked the date of Conference 2016 (21 April 2016) in your diaries. Tickets will go on sale early next year and they do sell out fast, so make sure you book your place.

2015 has seen the committee working hard to strengthen its ties with those in the industry who support us, all with a view to helping our profession grow. Watch out for newsletters for exciting developments in the new year.

Finally, thank you to all of our members for their support throughout 2015, and on behalf of the committee, best wishes to everyone for the Christmas season. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time on [email protected], or write to us at LP 3, Bridge of Allan.
