A warning of the latest types of attempted fraud against solicitors and their clients

The Society has issued a further alert after new cases emerged of attempted fraud.

In one, a cashroom received emails apparently from the most senior person in the firm, enquiring how to make a bank transfer, and further emails pressing for a transfer to a bank account in England; in another, a bank alerted a firm to an attempt to instruct large money transfers using forged solicitors’ signatures.

Clients in property transactions have also been targeted with emails apparently from their solicitors, claiming that the firm’s bank account has changed and seeking payment of a deposit into another account.
