Recent developments in the EU: European small claims procedure

The Council and Parliament have reached a compromise on a regulation amending the European Small Claims Regulation and the European Order for Payment Regulation. Its object is to make the European small claims procedure more efficient, reflecting technological progress, and accessible in a larger number of cases. The threshold for a small claim will increase from €2,000 to €5,000; this may be increased further subject to a later review, which will also consider the procedure to remuneration from cross-border employment.
