An invitation to join this year's in-house lawyers' big event, on risk and compliance

The In-house Lawyers Group Annual Conference and AGM takes place on Friday 28 October at the John McIntyre Conference Centre, Edinburgh. This year’s programme, which is now sponsored by seven big firms, has been devised around the theme of risk and compliance.

Topics this year include:

  • Employment law – risk management
  • Internal investigations and reports – the drivers, the risks and the recommended approach
  • The Sony PlayStation security breach
  • Dealing with corporate governance and risk
  • Controlling legal costs
  • Commerce and industry
  • Public sector
  • Contract – drafting and disputes
  • Litigation, arbitration, mediation – a debate.

As I have travelled round the country meeting many solicitors the issues raised by risk and the need for compliance have come to the fore.

We live in an increasingly regulated world. Bureaucracy and proof of due diligence hound our every step. I hope this conference, which will concentrate on risk and compliance, will help you meet the needs of your organisation. I look forward to seeing you there.

One part of the event is also the formal Annual General Meeting of the ILG. Business includes approval of the accounts and a report from the chair of the committee outlining the work carried out by the Group and the committee in the preceding year. Committee members are elected at the AGM. Committee membership is open to any member of the ILG, following a nominations process, and election. If you are interested in joining the committee, please contact the secretary to the Committee, Elaine MacGlone ([email protected], tel 0131 226 8887).

The conference will be followed by a networking dinner held at the Royal College of Surgeons, Queen Street, Edinburgh, commencing at 7pm with a drinks reception followed by a black tie dinner. The dinner is open to in-house and private practice lawyers, law firm executives and decision makers, and provides fantastic networking opportunities for all.
