Situations where the Professional Practice Committee will consider granting a waiver to the conflict of interest rules
Small to medium-sized firms are being offered a free service offering practical advice on practice management.

The confidential Practice Advisory Service offers advice on a wide range of issues, from how to draw up a business plan, to how to market a business.

Alan Matthew, Convenor of Practice Management Committee, said:  “A growing number of solicitors – particularly from smaller firms or sole practitioners – ask the Society about issues surrounding practice management issues like how to balance work with managing a firm’s finances?  Or time management to allow for new business ideas to be implemented or staff to be developed.

“The service is there mainly to assist smaller firms and sole practitioners, although the service will be provided to larger firms if there is a demand”.

The service is completely confidential, and offers a free consultation by an advisor, who will offer suggestions on people management, risk management, financial management and client care.  The advisors are all practising solicitors, with many years experience of practice management and will offer their advice in confidence.

Alan Matthew added:  “The details of discussions between the advisors and solicitors will remain confidential, so even the most delicate issues can be addressed through this service.

I hope that firms will use this service and benefit from the advice they receive.  Good practice management is fundamental to maintaining and growing business.”
