Our practice rules require anyone who becomes a “manager of a practice” to attend the New Partner Practice Management course (PMC) within 12 months of assuming that role. A "manager of a practice" is defined at Rule D 2.2 and includes sole practitioners, partners in firms and a member or director of an incorporated practice.
The course is also open to anyone considering becoming a partner and interested in finding out more about what their legal responsibilities would be - once completed, it is valid for 12 months.

Please note that as of June 2019, the Law Society of Scotland have made some changes to this course. New partners will no longer be required to read ‘Accelerated Best Practice’, and we have reduced the amount of time previously required for online materials.
Any members becoming a partner are still required to attend a day long training session with the Law Society of Scotland. These are held three times a year, in various locations around Scotland. These sessions will be a mix of essential regulatory training, some participative sessions with peers, and a range of speakers covering the key learning points for all partners.
As of June 2019, all PMC attendees will gain 10 hours verified CPD. Upon completion of the course, all participants will be entitled to use our online learning management system to gain an additional five hours of verified CPD, thus completing your annual requirements of 15 hours verifiable CPD. Please note that there are currently four online modules which all PMC attendees must complete successfully. We understand that some of the ground covered in these will be familiar to you, and have worked to make these as concise as possible – however, please note that the rules requirements are such that as the profession’s regulator we have to include these modules as part of the course - and that all new partners are required to complete them.
