This highly interactive, skills-orientated one-day course will help Scottish defence solicitors represent their clients within the police station interview setting.
The Scottish criminal defence solicitor’s role within police interviews is subject to rapid changes due to developments in EU and national law, including the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2016 and the Cadder decision.
In order to help the profession meet these new demands, we have developed specialist training to enable Scottish solicitors to deliver appropriate and high quality legal assistance to their clients in the police station.
This highly interactive course, inspired by the SUPRALAT project (Strengthening suspect's right in pre-trial proceedings through practice-oriented training for lawyers), is delivered by SUPRALAT-trained, practising criminal lawyers.

Our highly interactive and immersive training is based on the SUPRALAT project, which was designed to help defence solicitors effectively advise, defend and protect their clients’ procedural rights in the police detention stage of criminal proceedings.
Piloted across four EU Member states (Hungary, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands) up until September 2017. In October 2018, Professor Yvonne Daly, Dublin City University – a participant in the Ireland project - led a train-the trainer event for Scottish solicitors at the Society.
Participants will take part in role play scenarios which replicate the situations experienced at the police station. We will be seeking contributions from your participants' own experience to shape the learning.
There will up to 2 hours pre-training course material made available for participants in advance, meaning on completion of this course participants can claim up to 8.5 hours CPD.
