The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) introduces substantial changes to data protection legislation and its application. All businesses must be GDPR compliant by the enforcement date of 25 May 2018 or risk greatly increased potential penalties of up to €20 million or 4% of annual turnover.
The Regulation itself has been in force and available in its final form since May 2016. Since then the data protection community has been debating, and continues to debate, how many of its requirements should be interpreted. Guidance has started to emerge, from both the Article 29 Working Party and the ICO.
This full day course, which will assume a basic knowledge of data protection, will consider the guidance which has emerged so far, looking at the questions which it has and hasn’t answered. Any further guidance which has been published will also be considered as well as a discussion of the implications of Brexit. Finally, a GDPR action plan will be discussed.
