    Kirsty Slee

    Kirsty Slee has over 15 years experience in property dispute resolution and in that time has advised clients on a wide range of commercial and private property matters such as keep open clauses, reasonable withholding of consent, dilapidations, and missive and title disputes, as well as acting in planning appeals and judicial reviews of retail and environmental planning consents.  Kirsty is a solicitor advocate, and has represented clients in the Court of Session and Sheriff Court as well as conducting cases in the Lands Tribunal for Scotland and the Scottish Land Court. She is listed in Legal 500 as a key individual and a source quoted by Chambers describes her as 'tremendously knowledgeable across the full spectrum of property law'.

    Ken Gerber

    Ken Gerber is accredited as a commercial leasing specialist, and handles all aspects of commercial lease and development work. He wrote “Commercial Leases in Scotland: A Practitioner’s Guide” with the first edition in 2009 and it is now in its third edition, and also “Property Development in Scotland: Law & Practice”, published in 2017. He also wrote and is senior tutor for the Commercial Conveyancing course in the Law Diploma at Glasgow University.

    Matthew Farrell

    Matthew deals with complex and high value real estate disputes for a wide variety of clients, from property funds and corporate occupiers to developers and public bodies. He is especially well known for top end dilapidations disputes, having acted in the leading cases of Grove Investments Limited v Cape Building Products Limited and @SIPP Pension Trustee Limited v Insight Travel Services Limited. He also lectures on dilapidations at Glasgow Caledonian University.

    Caroline Drummond

    Caroline was a partner in Burness Paull LLP for 27 years specialising in commercial property work, representing a broad range of clients from both the public and private sectors. Caroline was appointed a full time Law Commissioner in February 2015. She was the lead commissioner on the project for the reform of the law on compulsory purchase. Caroline currently  leads the Scottish Law Commission project on reform of aspects of leases. The first discussion paper relative to aspects of termination of leases was published in May 2018.

    PropTech innovation: Changing legal practice

    Nicholas Kirby

    Nick is a Managing Associate in Mishcon de Reya's Real Estate department. He specialises in commercial real estate work and is the Real Estate Tech Specialist. This year he was named in the 'disruptors' category of The Lawyer Hot 100 list, hailing those on the front line of legal tech. Nick runs the Real Estate category in MDR LAB, the firm's incubator programme for tech start-ups in the legal space. Nick mentors the companies taking part in MDR LAB and has built technology products which help the department automate various tasks involved in transactions. This includes Solaris, an in-house application which pulls data from the Land Registry, and Mishcon Maps, which visualises key internal and client data on a map. In addition, Nick mentors PropTech start-ups at Pi Labs, a company investing in early stage ventures in the property tech vertical. Nick is also a member of the Accord Project Real Estate Working Party which is exploring the digitisation of Real Estate contracts.

    Luise Locke called to the Scottish Bar in 2000.  Prior to calling, Luise practised as a solicitor and partner at Murray Beith Murray, WS, specialising in conveyancing.  She has extensive experience and expertise in all aspects of land use law covering agricultural, residential and commercial leases, rights in security over land, neighbour/boundary disputes, judicial review of planning decisions, land obligations, land registration, rating, rectification of title, variation/termination of title conditions, servitudes, tenement law and common property disputes, public access rights/core paths under the Land Reform Act.  Luise has acted in a number of recent cases relevant to restrictive covenants over land and most recently has been advising on CAP Reform Regulations including cattle passports and subsidy (SFP) eligibility.

    Clare Tasker

    Clare has been with the Coal Authority for 13 years since graduating from Bristol University with a law degree.  Initially working within contracts and procurement provided her with great opportunities to build strong stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally – and gave her experience of an ever-changing public sector environment.  Moving to the Coal Authority’s operational team in 2011, Clare developed specialist skills and experience in mining information research, through supporting colleagues responding to mining risks across the UK coalfield.  

    Now operating in the Mining Reports Team, she has had opportunities to use this combination of skills and knowledge to drive client focused system developments, product development and engaging webinars/training sessions.  Clare now works with a number of clients, predominantly in Scotland, to ensure that they have the very best in support that meets their specific requirements.
