We hold a special and privileged place in civic Scotland and beyond. Our reputation as a fair, balanced and non-partisan organisation has been built over 70 years. Here’s how we will INFLUENCE the creation of a fairer and more just society by being an international centre of excellence in thought leadership between 1 November 2019 and 31 October 2020.

We will continue to provide a leading, non-partisan voice as the UK moves towards leaving the European Union, ensuring the interests of the profession and the public are properly considered by political decision makers.

We will promote the jurisdiction internationally.

We will to seek to ensure that, post-Brexit, our members maintain access to international clients and markets and have access to resources devoted to promoting legal services internationally. We will promote Scotland as a destination for dispute resolution and legal expertise.

We will seek to influence the Scottish Government in creating a long term, sustainable funding arrangement for legal aid in Scotland.

We will ensure solicitors and access to justice issues are central to legislative change around mediation and alternative dispute resolution.

We will ensure that our approach to assuring competence compares favourably with other jurisdictions and professions.

We will commence work to create a set of policy priorities for publication ahead of the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections.
